September 28th 2018 - Stryker, one of the world's leading medical technology companies, is celebrating its 20th year in Ireland.
Stryker’s Ireland presence now includes six manufacturing facilities in Belfast, Limerick and Cork, including a state-of-the-art additive manufacturing facility, as well as a global Innovation & Research & Development Centre. Over 3,000 people are employed across the seven sites.
The company’s growth is based on a diverse array of innovative products and services in Orthopaedics, Medical and Surgical, and Neurotechnology and Spine that help improve patient and hospital outcomes through the dedication of more than 33,000 employees globally.
Stryker’s 20 years of growth in Ireland mirrors the growth of the organisation worldwide. What started in 1998 as two green field sites with a small number of employees in Carrigtwohill, Cork, has grown significantly through organic growth and acquisitions. Today, a wide and diverse range of Stryker’s products are manufactured in Ireland.
“Since Stryker established its presence in Ireland in 1998, we have seen a significant expansion in our manufacturing operations through a combination of investment in leading edge technology and strategic acquisitions, but we have also seen the establishment and growth of a significant research and development competency that has and will continue to support our company mission of making healthcare better,” said Aidan O’Shea, Vice President of Stryker’s Ireland and UK locations.
“Stryker is a company that values diversity and inclusion. Everyone at Stryker owns their own career and we are always looking for high quality candidates in all disciplines - operations, quality, finance, validation, product development, engineering, regulatory, HR, product design, advanced operations and more,” said Mairead Hogan, Human Resources Senior Director of Stryker’s Ireland and UK locations. “Our employees are given every opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic environment. Stryker has four key values - Integrity, Accountability, People and Performance. These are the cornerstones of the culture within the organisation and a key ingredient in Stryker’s success.”
“Stryker’s growth, development and longevity in Ireland is a success story of which it can justifiably be proud,” said Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland.” “Having a company of the calibre of Stryker, progressive and a leading innovator at the cutting edge of new medical device technology here in Ireland is of tremendous value in a number of ways. It acts as an important reference centre for IDA demonstrating how global life sciences companies can grow and scale their operations in regional locations across Ireland. Their range of locations (i.e. Cork, Limerick and Belfast), means that the benefit is spread widely across the local economies in these locations, providing substantial numbers of jobs and creating considerable spin-off benefit. I wish Aidan and all of the management teams at the seven locations continued success.”
“Innovation, game changing technology and the opportunity to positively impact peoples’ lives are some of the reasons people love working with Stryker in Ireland. Stryker invests more than six percent of its global sales into research and development. Existing and yet to be developed product lines will continue to drive our sales growth long into the future,” said O’Shea.
